Announcing $35,000 for Flood Relief Efforts
$35,000 to Help Those Impacted by Southern Indiana’s Flood
At times like this we come together, as a community, to care for our neighbors and lend a helping hand.
Over the last week the rising Ohio River has caused damage to homes and businesses in Clark and Floyd counties. The local chapter of the American Red Cross has reported to us that nearly 400 families’ homes have sustained major damage or been destroyed, with Utica being the area hardest hit. Many of those displaced require financial assistance, hot meals, clean up kits and more.
$35,000 for Relief Efforts
As this community’s foundation, we at CFSI feel a sense of responsibility to help our community and neighbors rebuild. In an effort to lend our helping hand the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana has pledged $20,000 from our Community Impact Fund to help Southern Indiana residents in need.
CFSI’s grant will be made to the American Red Cross to help them make an immediate impact on the lives of our residents. Our grant will be used responsibly – providing financial assistance through case management, meal delivery, supply distribution and more – helping get our neighbors back in their homes and our businesses back to work.
In addition to the $20,000 for flood relief, we have also granted the Red Cross an additional $15,000 to help with the purchase of an Emergency Response Vehicle.
Community Impact Fund
The Foundation’s Community Impact Fund is our unrestricted fund which is used to support the greatest needs of our community – no matter how those needs may change over time. Annually, we grant nearly $300,000 from the Community Impact Fund – helping area nonprofits with their work and positively impacting the lives of Southern Indiana residents. In 2016, these grants helped 73,000 people in Southern Indiana!
Because of the devastating floods that have impacted our region, we’re using the Community Impact Fund to get our friends and neighbors back on their feet. This important unrestricted community-focused fund is here because of the generous donations of countless people throughout our region. If you would like to help us make a difference in the lives of current and future Southern Indiana residents, please consider making a gift here.
