The Women’s Foundation of Southern Indiana began in 2005 as a way to honor and support women and children in Clark, Floyd and Harrison counties. The organization’s advisory board has been meeting monthly to determine a strategy as well as goals and mission for the organization. The Women’s Foundation advisory board also has been discussing future events for the organization and what the needs are of women in Clark, Floyd and Harrison counties, the three counties the Community Foundation serves.

Vision
The Women’s Foundation of Southern Indiana will be the most recognized supporter of women's success in Southern Indiana

Mission
Working together to create ways to improve women's lives in Southern Indiana.

This mission will be achieved by:

  1. Developing financial resources that effect change for women
  2. Identifying human resources that provide support and advocacy for women
  3. Implementing a public awareness campaign that targets the needs and advances made on behalf of women

History
The Women’s Foundation started in 2005, when a small group of women community leaders began exploring the possibility of:

  • Addressing the issues of women and girls and,
  • Creating a philanthropic fund at the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana devoted to women’s charitable interests. A foundation of their own would enable more initiatives of interest to women and children to be funded with greater impact, meeting a dual mission of serving charitable causes in southern Indiana and encouraging philanthropy by women.

Today
Guided by a nine-member Advisory Board comprised of community representatives who reflect the diversity of our Southern Indiana communities, more than 100 women are now involved in moving The Women’s Foundation of Southern Indiana forward.

The Women’s Foundation is dedicated to supporting organizations that work to improve conditions and opportunities for women in Southern Indiana via grants and volunteer initiatives. Focus areas of the fund will be defined through periodic needs assessments as identified by the Southern Indiana Women’s Foundation Advisory Board and other committed volunteers. Focal issues today include family, community, health, youth, civic, culture, and education.

The Women’s Foundation of Southern Indiana holds both an endowed and pass-through fund at the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana that will increase the financial resources available to programs and organizations by and for women and girls in Floyd, Clark and Harrison County. And, by building activities to encourage women to think of themselves as philanthropists, the Women’s Foundation encourages women to share the philanthropic experiences and, at the same time, encourage women to contribute to the fund. The Women’s Foundation receives some direct staff support from the Community Foundation in asset development, grant making, public relations, investments and administration.
