Community Foundation Awards More Than $54,000 to Support Local Nonprofits & Programs

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The Community Foundation of Southern Indiana (CFSI) has awarded more than $54,000 in grant funding to six local nonprofit organizations whose work is meeting critical needs and creating lasting impact across Clark and Floyd counties.

This round of grantmaking supports a variety of essential programs, from feeding neighbors in need to mentoring local youth, providing shelter to veterans, and strengthening nonprofit infrastructure. The awarded grants reflect the Foundation’s continued commitment to improving the quality of life in Southern Indiana through responsive, community-driven philanthropy.

Four organizations received Community Assist Grants, which provide funding for projects that address urgent community needs:

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana ($5,000)

Expands its 1-to-1 mentoring program, providing 90 youth in Southern Indiana with life-changing relationships that foster academic achievement, emotional well-being, and positive development.

Kaiser Home Support Services ($1,533.28)

Provides new bedding and linens for all residents of Liberty Place – a sober living home for veterans. The program supports their recovery journey in a safe and welcoming environment.

St. Marks United Church of Christ ($5,000)

Supports organization’s Saturday Cafe, a weekly meal program that provided nearly 4,800 meals in 2024 to individuals experiencing hunger or hardship. The program offers not only food, but also dignity, fellowship, and support.

Youth Link Indiana ($5,000)

Enhances organization’s Bare Necessities initiative, which provides essential personal care items to at-risk youth, helping meet basic needs and restoring confidence and stability for more than 200 young people.

In addition, two organizations received Capacity Building Grants, which help nonprofits develop and strengthen the infrastructure needed to grow their missions and services:

Brandon’s House Counseling Center ($12,500)

Invest in board development, database modernization, and event software – investments that will expand the center’s capacity to deliver free mental health services to youth and families in crisis.

One Southern Indiana Foundation ($25,000)

Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan focused on driving regional economic growth, strengthening workforce development, and enhancing the business climate for years to come.

“These grants are a direct reflection of what’s possible when people care deeply about their community and invest in its future,” said Linda Speed, CFSI President and CEO. “We’re proud to support these organizations and the people they serve, and we thank our donors for making this important work possible.”

The Capacity Building and Community Assist Grant Programs accept applications throughout the year, allowing nonprofits to apply as their needs arise. Capacity Building grant requests range from $5,000 to $25,000, while Community Assist grants provide up to $5,000 in funding. Grant recipients are selected quarterly.
