Community Foundation of Southern Indiana Awards $52,500 in Grants to Support Local Nonprofits

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The Community Foundation of Southern Indiana (CFSI) is proud to announce the distribution of six grants totaling $52,500 to local nonprofits through its Community Assist and Capacity Building grant programs. These awards will provide vital funding to initiatives that support mental health services, arts accessibility, education, environmental sustainability, and nonprofit infrastructure improvements across Clark and Floyd counties.

“Each of these grants represents an investment in the well-being and future of our community,” said Linda Speed, CFSI President and CEO. “We are honored to support these impactful organizations as they work to enhance the quality of life for residents across Southern Indiana.”

Four organizations received Community Assist Grants, which provide funding for projects that address urgent community needs:

Centerstone of Indiana | $5,000

Supporting the Mental Health Safety-Net Program to ensure 1,470 students in Clark and Floyd counties receive critical mental health treatment, including therapy and life skills training.

Kentucky Shakespeare, Inc. | $3,000

Expanding the Shakespeare in the Parks tour to Clarksville and Sellersburg, bringing a free performance of “Macbeth” to 500 community members.

Purdue Univ. Extension – Floyd Co. | $2,680

Launching Pollinating for the Future, a three-pronged initiative providing youth beekeeping education, pollinator planting programs, and updating essential beekeeping equipment.

River Valley Resources | $4,320

Assisting 30 individuals in obtaining their High School Equivalency Diplomas (HSED) by covering testing fees, breaking down barriers to employment and education.

In addition, two organizations received Capacity Building Grants, which help nonprofits develop and strengthen the infrastructure needed to grow their missions and services:

Family Ark | $15,600

Developing a comprehensive organizational communications strategy to enhance outreach, program visibility, and engagement efforts.

River Heritage Conservancy | $21,900

Supporting the redesign of Origin Park’s website to improve accessibility, functionality, and engagement, ensuring the park remains a welcoming space for all visitors.

Speed added, “By investing in both direct services and capacity-building efforts, we are ensuring that these organizations have the resources and tools needed to create lasting, positive change in the communities they serve.”

The Capacity Building and Community Assist Grant Programs accept applications throughout the year, allowing nonprofits to apply as their needs arise. Capacity Building grant requests range from $5,000 to $25,000, while Community Assist grants provide up to $5,000 in funding. Grant recipients are selected quarterly.
