Mentoring Youth- Lion Cubs Reading Club

The Rock Creek Community Academy created the Lion Cubs Reading Club to help younger students who struggled with reading skills. The National Honor Society members became mentors to the younger students in kindergarten to 3rd grade. The Lions cubs Reading Club meets once a week after school to offer one to one assistance and small group tutoring.

Through a grant from the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana, members were able to purchase fiction, nonfiction, reference, and picture books for the students to use. The mentoring relationship not only improved reading skills but also provided great role models to the younger students.
