Stopping Hunger in Our Community

Every day, men, women, children, and elderly in our community go hungry. In fact, in the United States, one in every six people struggles with hunger. Fortunately, there are organizations and volunteers dedicated to offering a helping hand.

Thanks to grants and donations, St. Mark’s United Church of Christ Soup Kitchen provides free meals to our
community’s hungry every Saturday of the year. Operating 52 weeks a year, regardless of holidays or weather, 100-150 individuals receive a free, hot and nutritious meal thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers and community organizations who have come together to ensure people’s nutritional needs throughout New Albany are met.

Each year, the Community Foundation’s unrestricted Community Endowment fund provides grants for our community’s most pressing needs – like helping the hungry though St. Mark’s United Church of Christ Soup Kitchen. Through March 2016 you can help us increase our support for programs like this by supporting the Foundation’s Community Endowment Fund. Your gift – and your impact – will double, thanks to the Lilly Endowment matching opportunity.
