Addressing Nutritional Needs of the Elderly

Many of our community’s elderly population have a nutritional risk due to lack of ability to afford or prepare meals, multiple medication usage, and eating alone a majority of the time. These and other factors can make it difficult for some elderly people to live independently in their own homes.

Last year, LifeSpan Resources received a grant from the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana that allowed them to provide meals to three clients in Clark County who were on their waiting list for Meals to Go.  All three clients need assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, meal preparation, transportation and housekeeping. Two are disabled and one is a diabetic. Having a daily prepared, well balanced meal delivered, along with a friendly check in by a Meals to Go driver greatly improves their ability to remain living at home and through nutritional impact, lessens the possibility that their health will deteriorate.
