Have Your Gifts Matched
Matching Opportunity Comes Back
To Southern Indiana!
Support Your Community by TRIPLING your Charitable Gifts!
Thanks to a newly announced matching opportunity from Lilly Endowment Inc., the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana is now offering a match for all qualifying contributions made to endowment funds between now and December 31, 2020, or as soon as the allocated matching funds are exhausted.
TRIPLE Your Donation
You won’t get an opportunity better than this! TRIPLE your donation when you contribute to the Community Foundation’s unrestricted Community Impact Fund. Lilly Endowment will match your gift, $2 for every $1 you contribute! This is the easiest and most flexible way to provide for the most pressing needs in our community, forever. Last year we made more than 60 grants worth for over $266,000 to Southern Indiana nonprofits from the Community Impact Fund – helping address the needs of more than 84,000 people in our community.
We will automatically match any qualifying gift you make to the unrestricted Community Impact Fund between now and December 31, 2020 (or until the balance of the matching funds is allocated, if sooner).
Add to or Create Your Own Fund with a $1 for $2 Match
All matching funds to create or add to your own endowment fund have already been allocated. But the good news is that we are still here to serve as your partner, resource and steward in philanthropy. Even though there are no longer matching funds available, you can still set up a charitable fund to support your favorite causes now and forever.
If you have additional questions about how you can take advantage of the match, start an endowment fund, or support the Community Impact Fund, please contact Linda Speed or Kenton Wooden at 812-948-4662.
CFSI is excited to offer this matching opportunity to you and our entire community, however matching funds are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
It’s important to note that matching funds will not be available for passthrough funds.
For Nonprofits Seeking Matching Funds
If you’re a nonprofit organization who is interested in adding to your endowment fund at CFSI (or starting a new endowment fund) to get the match, there are a few things you need to know. Lilly Endowment’s match is to encourage new charitable gifts that will benefit our community. Therefore, you cannot simply transfer assets from your organization to CFSI and receive the match.
Per Lilly Endowment’s guidelines, in order to receive the match you must:
- Raise new charitable dollars specifically for the purpose of creating a new or adding to your current endowment fund.
- CFSI must be central to your fundraising effort. That is, the community foundation and endowment fund are specifically named in any fundraising communication to potential donors.
Contributions from individuals directly to a charitable organization endowment would be matchable.
Can Grants from Private Foundations Be Used for Match?
Grants made by private foundations during their ordinary course of grant making are eligible fora match. A transfer of assets from a private foundation is not eligible for a match.
What About Distributions from Donor Advised Funds?
- Distributions from a DAF that is held or controlled by a community foundation will not qualify as matching funds to that community foundation, even if such distributions are in the ordinary course of operations of the DAF.
Distributions from DAFs held by a commercial firm (e.g., Fidelity, Schwab) are eligible for the match in the ordinary course of operations.
