The Community Foundation of Southern Indiana works with many other organizations in Southern Indiana to support various charitable efforts. We help write grants, provide advice and support during the project and hold endowment funds for projects. Information is below about each project.
CAPE Projects
The Community Alliances to Promote Education grant program is funded by the Lilly Endowment Inc. One grant for $1.5 million will fund Communities in Schools of Clark County, which will coordinate programs that will enable children to get help with their homework, receive counseling for problems at home, learn to read and even fight health problems. The second grant for $1.5 million went to the New Albany-Floyd County Consolidated School Corp. and will be used for a reading initiative designed to help the most vulnerable young children. The major goal of that program is to help every third grader who participates in the program reading on or above grade level. A portion of the second grant will be held as an endowment by the Community Foundation and to fuel ongoing efforts to find more grants to extend the CAPE programs in both counties.

4-Community
In 2004, community members met and identified major problems in Clark, Floyd and Harrison counties, and applied for grants through the Lilly Foundation. In Clark County, we helped a local group obtain a grant to help improve financial literacy. That new organization is called the Southern Indiana Asset Building Coalition siabc.org. In Floyd County, we led a local coalition to help create a community where youth can succeed. That effort is called Youth Count. In Harrison County, we helped a group of community leaders obtain funding to fight the community’s rising meth addiction. That effort is called WHAM, which stands for War in Harrison County against Meth. That project has since been assumed by another group.

New Albany-Floyd County Education Foundation The New Albany-Floyd County Education Foundation supports the work of the school system. The Foundation is a non-profit corporation that serves as a vehicle to solicit, receive and allocate gifts, grants, and bequests of money, property or services to enrich the offerings of the New Albany-Floyd County Consolidated School Corporation (NAFCCSC). The goal is to establish a partnership with the business community for the benefit of the Foundation and the NAFCCSC, and to enhance the link between the NAFCCSC and the community.
